Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, the conversation on the homepage is the fastest way to ask it.
Will getting a quote affect my credit score?
No. Indicative options are calculated from the information you give us — we don't run a credit check to show them, so nothing appears on your credit file.
A credit enquiry only happens later, if you decide to apply with a lender, and only with your explicit consent. Your specialist will tell you before any enquiry is made.
Is my quote guaranteed?
No — and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. What you see is a calculator: your own figures at a rate you set on the slider, not a price anyone has offered you.
Final rates and terms depend on the lender's full assessment of your application, your credit history and the asset. We never guarantee approval.
Who actually provides the loan?
A lender on the panel your finance specialist works with. Findnance is not a lender, does not arrange finance and does not recommend a lender — we give you a calculator to work out indicative numbers, and when you proceed an independent licensed broker takes it from there and arranges the application with the lender that fits.
The credit contract is always between you and that lender, on their terms.
What's a balloon payment?
A balloon is a lump sum left owing at the end of the loan term. Because you're not paying that portion down each month, your regular repayments are lower — but you'll need to pay out, refinance or trade the asset when the balloon falls due.
For example, a $60,000 car loan with a 30% balloon leaves $18,000 owing at the end of the term. It suits some cash-flow situations and not others — a specialist can talk it through.
How fast can things move?
Indicative options take about two minutes. Once you tap Get It Sorted, a specialist is usually in touch the same or next business day.
For straightforward asset finance with documents ready, lender approval can come within one to two business days, and settlement soon after. Complex deals — commercial property especially — take longer, and your specialist will give you an honest timeline up front.
Is my data sold to other companies?
No. We don't sell enquiries or trade in leads. Your information goes to the finance specialist handling your file and, with your consent, to the lender assessing your application — that's it.
The full detail is in our privacy policy.
What does it cost to use Findnance?
Typically nothing directly. When a loan settles, the lender usually pays us a commission out of their margin — it isn't added to your loan as an extra charge.
If a direct fee ever applied to a complex deal, it would be agreed with you in writing first. See our disclosures page for how remuneration works.
Do I need a deposit?
Not always. Many asset finance products can be structured with no deposit, particularly for established businesses financing vehicles or equipment.
A deposit generally lowers your repayments and can improve pricing. You can adjust the deposit in your quote and watch the numbers respond before deciding.
Do I need an ABN?
For business and commercial finance products — business vehicles, trucks, equipment, business funding — yes, lenders will generally want an active ABN, and pricing often improves with trading history and GST registration.
If you're financing a car for personal use, different consumer products apply and an ABN isn't required.
What if I've had credit problems?
Be upfront about it — it changes the strategy, not necessarily the outcome. Some panel lenders will consider past defaults or a discharged Part IX at different pricing.
Your specialist will tell you honestly where you stand before anything is lodged, so you don't collect credit enquiries on applications that were never going to succeed.
