Credit guide

A credit guide tells you who you are dealing with, how they are licensed, how they are paid, and what to do if something goes wrong. This page sets out our details and explains who gives you the guide for your finance.

What we do, and what we do not do

We are an enquiry service. We work out what you are trying to finance, give you a calculator to estimate repayments yourself, and — only with your consent — pass your enquiry to a licensed finance broker who takes it from there. We do not provide credit assistance, we do not arrange or recommend a loan, and we are not the credit provider.

The broker who contacts you is the licensee. They assess your circumstances, recommend a product, deal with the lender and lodge the application. We do none of those things, and nothing on this site is a recommendation that a particular loan is suitable for you.

Who gives you a credit guide

Under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, a licensee must give you a credit guide before providing credit assistance. Because we do not provide credit assistance, we do not issue one. The broker your enquiry goes to does, and they must give it to you before they do any work on your behalf.

Their guide is the document that matters: it names their licence or credit representative number, the lenders they are accredited with, what they are paid and by whom, and how to complain about them. If it has not arrived by the time you are asked to sign anything, ask for it.

Much commercial and business-purpose lending sits outside the consumer credit regime, so a credit guide is not always legally required. Ask for one regardless — a broker who will not tell you how they are paid has told you something useful.

Lender accreditations

We hold no lender accreditations, submit no applications and receive no decisions. Figures shown on this site are calculated estimates based on general market assumptions, not offers or quotes from a lender. The accreditations that decide what you can actually be offered are the broker's, and they are listed in the guide they give you.

How we are paid

Findnance is not paid a referral fee, and Findnance receives no commission when a loan settles. The person who owns Findnance is employed as a finance broker at the brokerage your enquiry goes to, and may handle your enquiry personally. If your loan settles, they are paid a share of the commission that brokerage earns — that is the only money your enquiry produces for anyone here. Nobody pays us for your details, and you are never charged.

Our full remuneration statement, including referral relationships in both directions, is in our disclosures.

If something goes wrong

Complaints about this site, about how we handled your enquiry, or about being contacted are ours to fix — see our complaints process. We are not a credit licensee and are not a member of an external dispute resolution scheme in our own right. If we cannot resolve your complaint, the avenues open to you are set out there.

Complaints about the loan itself, the advice you were given or the conduct of the broker go to that broker's own complaints process and their dispute resolution scheme, both named in their credit guide.

Two documents, two businesses

This page covers us. The credit guide covering your finance comes from the licensed broker. Keep both — between them they tell you who is responsible for what, and who is paid for it.
